We’re delighted to announce that Cause UK has been shortlisted for the Prolific North Not-for-Profit Campaign of the Year 2025 for our Talent is Classless campaign, created in partnership with New Writing North.

Working with a coalition of civic, industry and academic leaders, the CEO of New Writing North, Claire Malcolm, developed a bid for a new national centre for the writing industries to be based in Newcastle. The ambition is to rebalance the southern-centricity of the publishing world.

The bid was submitted to government’s DCMS for £5m funds, which would help secure match-funding.

Claire tasked Cause UK with putting the campaign on the national news agenda, particularly in front of influencers.

We developed and pitched the story, working with key multiple stakeholders, including the North East Mayor (Kim McGuinness), Hachette publishing group, Northumbria University, and the local council/combined authority.

We secured substantial targeted media, launching the campaign on BBC Radio 4 Today, Radio 4 PM, BBC Radio 2, with features in the Guardian, I newspaper, and others, with 50 meaningful pieces of press coverage and an audience of 1.3B.

Being recognised by Prolific North is a true honour and we’re in brilliant company.

We want to extend our congratulations to the other inspiring campaigns on this year’s shortlist:

  • Bonded Agency, Story & Fresh – Smoking Survivors
  • Channel 4, EssenceMediaCom, McCann Leeds & Benenden Health – Time for Another Check-In
  • Health Innovation Manchester, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust & AgencyGMR – Detecting EARLY Heart Failure in Greater Manchester
  • Hitch Marketing & Wirral Council – Breathe Better
  • MadeBrave & Catherine McEwan Foundation – Shooting the Sht for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)*
  • Start Communication & Fourth Day – The Ethical Supply Chain Program: A 20-Year Brand Evolution

Each of these campaigns is making a real difference – tackling important health issues, driving social change, and championing ethical business practices.

At Cause UK, we believe in the power of storytelling to shift perceptions, amplify unheard voices, and spark change. This nomination is a testament to the incredible work our team and clients do every day.

Ann Challenor-Chadwick, Director of Cause UK said: “Thank you to Prolific North for recognising our work, and to Claire Malcom CBE (pictured), CEO of New Writing North for trusting us with their powerful mission. It’s an honour to be shortlisted amongst such fantastic campaigns.”
