The Monopoly Leeds Takeover is bought to you by the LeedsBID and celebrates the historic links of one of the world’s most loved board games with Leeds. Monopoly has a staggering 1 billion players worldwide. It’s origins to Leeds date back to 1935 when the famous Waddington factory of Leeds bought the license to the US Landlord’s Game, and designed the boardgame, as we now know it, with the now famous London street names. Monopoly was first played in Horsforth in Leeds. Visitors can visit the Leeds City Museum to learn more about this unique connection.
