Have you checked out one of the ‘Top 100 Things to do in the World’ (according to GQ magazine)?
Our client, Harrogate International Festivals, delivers its next Berwins Salon North event on 25 January. These TED-style talks are designed to inspire. The next Salon features Dexter Dias QC – check out the Press Release below!
Leading Harrogate based law firm, Berwins, is welcoming one of the UK’s most respected human rights lawyers, Dexter Dias QC, to Berwins Salon North on 25th January, which focuses on the theme ‘Constitution’.
Berwins is title sponsor of the Salon North series, delivered by arts charity, Harrogate International Festivals. The cabaret style night is one of Harrogate’s most sought after tickets after the Salon was voted as number six in the ‘Top 100 Things to do in the World’ by GQ magazine.
A night out with a difference, it explores stimulating ideas in art, science and psychology. The ‘revolutionary movement for the heart and mind’ features three experts who deliver TED-style talks, designed to change your life for the better.
Dexter Dias QC is a barrister who has been instructed in some of the biggest human rights cases involving murder, crimes against humanity, terrorism, war crimes and genocide. He has played a pivotal role in public inquiries and inquests that are watersheds in the developing law of the land. The Legal 500 and Chambers UK describe him as an “unstoppable force of nature in court.”
An internationally bestselling author who studied psychology at Harvard, Dias will be discussing his latest book, Ten Types of Human, a pioneering examination of human nature, exploring how we react to life’s most difficult decisions. It looks at the best and worst we are capable of in extreme situations, to understand who we are, and who we can be.
Stephen Root, Director at Berwins and one of Yorkshire’s leading family lawyers, said: “I’ve spent over 30 years’ practising law that deals with life-changing situations, such as divorce, so it will be fascinating to hear the insights of Dexter Dias QC. Although he deals with extreme situations, it promises to be a unique opportunity to learn about human nature, and how we can best respond to the significant pressures in our personal lives.”
Ten Types of Human explains how we fall into 10 tropes, from the Rescuer to the Aggressor, and poses moral dilemmas to help you work out which trope you lean towards. The book has featured on BBC 2’s Jonathon Ross Show, featured in The Guardian, and topped the Amazon bestseller charts.
‘Constitution’ also features Jo Swinson MP, Lib Dem politician and former minister for business and women and equalities, who will explore the hotly debated issue of inequality and power, drawing from her essential and inspiring book, Equal Power.
Author, Catherine Nixey, will explore the role of religion during the Roman Empire, when it laid down its own laws, and the consequences that still resonate in British philosophy today, drawing from her clever and controversial book, The Darkening Age: The Christian Destruction of the Classical World.
Constitution, takes place on Thursday 25 January, 7.30pm at the Crown Hotel, Harrogate. To book, visit harrogateinternationalfestivals.com BOX OFFICE: 01423 562 303
